Thacker Mountain Radio is a live radio show broadcast weekly for 15 years from the Square in Oxford, Mississippi, and rebroadcast every Saturday night on Mississippi public radio.

Thacker hosts an eclectic mix of local and national writers and musicians, performing before a live and loyal audience in Off Square books, an annex of Square Books, one of the great independent bookstores in the nation. Larger shows each season are in the Lyric Theater, an historic opera house that was once a livery stable owned by William Faulkner’s family.

The Oxford Square was the center of the fictional Yoknapatawpha County in William Faulkner’s novels. Recently, Oxford has been the home base of writers including Willie Morris, Barry Hannah, Larry Brown, Tom Franklin, Beth Ann Fennelly, Jack Pendarvis, Ace Atkins, John Brandon, and National Book Award winner Jesmyn Ward.

Musicians appearing on Thacker Mountain Radio have included Marty Stuart, Del McCoury, Elvis Costello, Bobby Rush, T-Model Ford, Blue Mountain, the Campbell Brothers, Charlie Musselwhite, Kenny Brown, Duwayne Burnside, Jimbo Mathus, the Bottle Rockets, Robert “Bilbo” Walker, Tracy Schwartz and Ginny Hawker, and the Mighty Gospel Warriors.
